  • Knowledge Exam

    We highly recommend you study the Washington State Driver's Guide before testing. 

    Photo ID (e.g., state-issued, passport, military, tribe, school, or yearbook) is preferred. If you are under 18 and don't have a government ID, bring a birth certificate, a parent on the certificate, and their ID. Be sure to pre-register with the DOL before testing. (If you have a Washington State ID or permit, you are already pre-registered.)

    Knowledge Test can be taken on a computer or tablet. It's a 40-question multiple-choice test that assesses knowledge of traffic safety laws. To pass, you need to answer at least 32 questions correctly.

    • You must have a License eXpress account. Please come prepared with your username & password.

    After you register and pay, you may schedule your testing time in your student center. Walk-ins are welcome, but we cannot guarantee availability. Space is limited. Knowledge exam: Thursdays and Saturdays 4-6pm.

    You must be at least 15 1/2 years old to take the knowledge exam. If you are late for your test, your spot may be forfieted. 

  • Drive Test

    If you are 15-17 years old, you must have completed the driver education program and passed the DOL written test to take the driving test. To get your license, you must be at least 16 years old, have had your permit for six months, and completed 50 hours of parent-led practice with 10 hours of nighttime driving.

    • Must have passed the state knowledge exam within the past two years.
    • Test available in English only.
    • Be prepared. Learn what's on the test.
    • A photo ID (e.g., state-issued, passport, military, school, or yearbook) is required to take the test.

    After you register and pay, you may schedule your testing time in your student center. 

    Tests are given by appointment only. Same-day appointments are often available.
